Where to find your IBAN
Your IBAN is shown on your bank statement, in online and mobile banking, and sometimes on your debit card. It is built from four parts:
What is an IBAN?
An IBAN (International Bank Account Number) is a standardised code of up to 34 characters that identifies a specific bank account for international payments. It starts with a 2-letter country code, then 2 check digits, then the country's domestic account details (bank code, branch and account number). The check digits use the ISO 7064 MOD-97 formula, so this validator can catch a mistyped IBAN instantly. An IBAN is not the same as a SWIFT/BIC code — the SWIFT code identifies the bank, the IBAN identifies the account; many transfers need both.
FAQ
What is an IBAN?
An IBAN is an International Bank Account Number — a code that uniquely identifies a bank account for cross-border payments. It includes the country, bank and account number with two check digits.
How do I check if an IBAN is valid?
Paste it into the Validate tab. The tool verifies the length for that country and recalculates the MOD-97 check digits to confirm the IBAN is genuine.
Is an IBAN the same as a SWIFT/BIC code?
No. The IBAN identifies the account; the SWIFT/BIC identifies the bank. International transfers often need both.
Is it safe to share my IBAN?
Sharing your IBAN to receive a payment is generally safe — it is needed to send you money and does not let anyone withdraw from your account.
Can I generate an IBAN?
Use the Calculate tab to build an IBAN from your country, bank code and account number — it computes the correct check digits for you.
