About speech to text
Speech to text turns your spoken words into written text using your browser voice-recognition engine. Click record, talk, and watch the transcript appear live — then copy or download it. It is great for voice typing, dictating notes and captions, and writing faster than you can type. Recognition runs through the browser; nothing is stored by us.
How Speech to Text works
How to convert speech to text
- Click Start and allow microphone access when prompted.
- Speak clearly; your words appear as text in real time.
- Stop when finished, then copy or download the transcript.
Best results
Use a good microphone in a quiet room and speak at a natural pace. You can say punctuation like "comma" or "new line" in many languages. Choose the matching language for the best accuracy.
Browser support
Voice recognition works in Chrome, Edge and other Chromium browsers, and on Android. Some browsers (such as Firefox) do not support it. The page tells you if your browser cannot transcribe.
Useful voice commands
In many languages you can dictate punctuation and formatting out loud — say "comma", "full stop" or "period", "question mark", "new line" or "new paragraph" and they are inserted as you speak. Pausing briefly between sentences and speaking at a natural, even pace gives the most accurate transcription.
