About the Word Counter

The Word Counter gives you a full breakdown of any text as you type: word count, characters (with and without spaces), sentences, paragraphs, lines, unique words, average word length, and estimated reading and speaking time. It also shows how many characters you have left against common limits — a 280-character tweet, a 160-character meta description and a 60-character SEO title. Everything runs in your browser, so your text stays private.

How Word Counter works

The counter scans your text and measures it several ways:

  • Words — runs of non-space characters separated by spaces or line breaks.
  • Characters — every character, shown with and without spaces.
  • Sentences — segments ending in ., ! or ?.
  • Paragraphs — blocks of text separated by blank lines.
  • Reading time — based on about 200 words per minute (average adult reading speed).
  • Speaking time — based on about 130 words per minute (a comfortable speaking pace).

How to use

  1. Type or paste your text into the input box.

Frequently asked questions

How many pages is my word count?
As a rough guide in 12pt font: about 250 words per page double-spaced (≈500 single-spaced). So 500 words ≈ 1–2 pages, 1000 words ≈ 2–4 pages, and 2500 words ≈ 5–10 pages, depending on spacing and font.
How is reading time calculated?
Reading time assumes about 200 words per minute (the average adult reading speed); speaking time assumes about 130 words per minute.
Does it count characters with and without spaces?
Yes — both are shown, because different limits count differently (tweets include spaces, some fields do not).
What length should a meta description or tweet be?
Meta descriptions work best around 150–160 characters, SEO titles around 60 characters, and a tweet/X post allows up to 280. The tool shows how many characters you have left for each.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. Counting happens entirely in your browser; your text never leaves your device.
Is the Word Counter free?
Yes — it is completely free, with no sign-up and no limits.
