How Pace Converter works
Pace and speed are reciprocals
Speed is distance per hour; pace is time per distance — so one is 60 divided by the other. Pace (min/km) = 60 ÷ speed (km/h), and speed (km/h) = 60 ÷ pace (min/km). A mile is 1.609344 km, which is how the per-mile figures relate to the per-kilometre ones.
Worked example
A 5:30 min/km pace is 5.5 minutes per km, so speed = 60 ÷ 5.5 = 10.9 km/h (about 6.8 mph). Per mile that is 5.5 × 1.609 = 8:51 min/mile.
