About black-and-white conversion
This tool converts a colour photo to black and white (grayscale). Drop an image and it is desaturated instantly; you can set a partial amount and adjust contrast and brightness, then download. It runs in your browser, so your photo is never uploaded.
How Image to Grayscale works
How to use it
- Drop or choose a colour photo.
- Adjust the black-and-white amount, contrast and brightness.
- Download the result.
How it works
Grayscale conversion removes colour while keeping the brightness of each pixel, so the image becomes shades of grey. The amount slider lets you partially desaturate for a muted look, and contrast and brightness controls help you get rich blacks and clean whites.
Tips
A small boost in contrast often makes black-and-white photos look crisper. For a dramatic, high-contrast monochrome, push contrast up; for a soft, faded feel, lower it slightly.
