About the Fuel Cost Calculator
A fuel cost calculator estimates how much fuel a trip will use and what it will cost. Enter the distance, your vehicle's fuel economy and the fuel price; choose US units (miles, MPG, $/gallon) or metric (km, L/100km, price per litre), and optionally double it for a round trip.
How Fuel Cost Calculator works
US: gallons = distance ÷ MPG; cost = gallons × price.
Metric: litres = distance ÷ 100 × (L/100km); cost = litres × price.
Example: 300 miles at 30 MPG and .50/gal → 10 gallons, .
Common uses
- Budget fuel for a road trip
- Compare the running cost of different vehicles
- Estimate commuting fuel costs
- Work out round-trip fuel spend
