About the GPS odometer
This GPS odometer is a trip-distance tracker: it measures how far you travel in kilometres or miles using your device's GPS, and shows your trip time, current speed, average speed and top speed. Start it at the beginning of a journey and it counts up as you move. Everything runs on your device; nothing is uploaded or stored.
How GPS Odometer works
How it measures distance
As your GPS position updates, the tool adds up the great-circle distance between each pair of points to build the total distance travelled. Very small jumps are ignored so a parked or standing position does not inflate the figure, and your average speed is worked out from the distance covered over the time you were moving.
Tips for an accurate trip
- Use it outdoors on a phone with a clear view of the sky.
- Press Start at the beginning of the trip and allow location access; press Reset to start a new trip.
- The reading is most accurate when GPS accuracy (shown on the speedometer) is good.
