How fast am I going?
This tool answers a simple question — how fast am I going right now? — using your device's GPS. Press Start and it shows your live speed on a dial and a big digital readout, in km/h, mph, m/s or knots, along with your top and average speed. It works in a car, on a bike, on a train or on foot. Everything runs on your device; nothing is uploaded.
How GPS Speed Checker works
How it knows your speed
Your phone's GPS reports your position several times a second. The tool reads the speed straight from the GPS chip when available, or works it out from how far you have moved between readings. That is why it needs a moment to settle and works best outdoors with a clear view of the sky.
How to use it
- Press Start and allow location access.
- Wait a couple of seconds for a GPS fix — the accuracy figure shows the signal strength.
- Your current speed shows on the dial; switch units or the digital view any time.
For a vehicle-specific dial, see the car, bike or train speedometers, or the main GPS speedometer.
