Morse code encodes letters and numbers as sequences of dots (·) and dashes (–). Invented for the telegraph, it is still used in aviation, amateur radio and emergency signalling — the most famous example is SOS (· · · – – – · · ·). Timing

A dash is three times as long as a dot. Gaps separate parts: one dot-length between symbols, three between letters, and seven between words.
